Published: September 23, 2008

Run-D.M.C. could "Walk This Way" into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The 1980s rap act, along with Metallica and the Stooges, are among the nine nominees for next year's hall of fame class, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced Monday.

The other nominees are guitarist Jeff Beck, singer Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, War, Bobby Womack, and disco and R&B group Chic.

The list is notable for the wide range of musical genres represented - hip-hop, metal, punk, disco and R&B - and the large number of first-time candidates. Only Chic, the Stooges and Jackson have been previously nominated.

The five leading vote-getters will be announced in January and inducted April 4, 2009, in Cleveland.

Breathe A Sigh Of Relief: Miley's Staying
Miley Cyrus on Monday saved countless Americans from early heart attacks, not to mention suicide, by denying rumors that she was jumping ship from her smash-hit show on Disney Channel.

"I am fully committed to 'Hannah Montana.' It's what gave me this amazing opportunity to reach out to so many people," Cyrus tells People. "I couldn't do it alone. We have an amazing cast that is so supportive, including my dad, who has been there for me every step of the way."

Gossipers have murmured that the 15-year-old megastar and her country-warbler dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, have misbehaved on set in the hopes of forcing producers to fire them.

Disney says there's nothing but love on set, a channel rep says.

Ripa Hangs With Blaine

Kelly Ripa hung upside down Monday on "Live With Regis and Kelly" so she could talk face to face with illusionist David Blaine - who earlier that day launched his latest egomaniacal bid for international publicity, global acclaim, celebrity and money with a new stunt that will have him hang upside down in Central Park in Manhattan for three days and two nights.

Blaine, who never saw a hyperbole he didn't like, calls his latest test of physical strength, stamina and spiritual fortitude the "Dive of Death." His 60-hour upended vigil will end Wednesday live with an ABC special when he is to do the actual "dive of death" trick. (What is it? Your guess is as good as mine.)

Blaine, who hung out for 44 days in a Plexiglas case hung over the River Thames, says there is one risk: "the possibility of blood hemorrhaging in the brain."
