CLEARWATER - A 15-year-old Countryside High School student died over the weekend, and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office has launched an investigation as a result.
Chelsea J. Greco was found unresponsive at 5:13 a.m. Sunday by her mother at the family's Safety Harbor home, sheriff's spokeswoman Marianne Pasha said. She was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Pasha said.
Greco was last seen by her mother and mother's live-in boyfriend the night before, and the girl appeared to be fine, Pasha said.
The sheriff's office is conducting a death investigation, Pasha said. There have been no arrests, and the cause of death was not available.
The school is devastated by the loss of the girl, and is trying to do what it can to keep her memory alive.
"She used to cheer at my football games," said Anthony Drye, a ninth-grader wearing a hand-painted shirt memorializing Greco today.
Andrea Rusch, another ninth-grader, said, "We ordered like rubber bracelets and stuff for her that have her name on it and like, R.I.P. Chelsea and stuff like that."
