ST. PETERSBURG - Skeletal remains found over the weekend have been identified as those of a man who had been missing since June, St. Petersburg police said.
The remains were those of James J. Burnette, 36, of 350 74th Ave. N., Apt. 217, St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg police spokesman George Kajtsa said.
Burnette's remains were found about 2:50 p.m. Sunday in the vicinity of Gandy Boulevard and Fourth Street North, Kajtsa said. He was last seen June 18, police said.
The cause of death is unknown. An autopsy on the remains is not complete, St. Petersburg police said.
Burnette's death is not believed to be connected with the death of Jason Michael Downey, whose body was found Sunday floating in Tampa Bay, not far from where Burnette was found, Kajtsa said.
