WEST PALM BEACH - The Palm Beach County canvassing board has certified William Abramson the winner in a disputed judicial race that took nearly a month to count.
The board said Tuesday that Abramson defeated incumbent Circuit Judge Richard Wennet by 61 votes in a third machine recount. The total tally was 45,531 votes to 45,470 votes.
Abramson was ahead 17 votes on Aug. 26, which triggered a recount. During that recount 3,500 ballots appeared to go missing, putting Wennet ahead by 60 votes. Gradually all but 12 of the missing ballots were accounted for, and Tuesday's recount apparently turned up all the ballots.
Wennet congratulated Abramson on winning but said he might continue an ongoing legal challenge a Tallahassee judge has been reviewing the past few weeks.
