The Florida Highway Patrol this afternoon arrested a Spring Hill woman, charging her in a Jan. 5 accident that killed a 24-year-old woman.
Barbara Jean Diffendal was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence manslaughter for the crash that killed Jeanine Bethoney of Spring Hill, the highway patrol said.
Toxicology tests showed Diffendal, 47, 10239 Swanson Court, was under the influence of alcohol when her 2003 Mustang crossed the median of U.S. 19 and struck Bethoney's 1989 Firebird, the highway patrol said.
Diffendal was driving south on U.S. 19 near Forest Oaks Boulevard when the collision occurred. Bethoney died within two hours of the crash.
Diffendal also was charged with driving without a driver's license, plus other traffic charges. She was booked into the Hernando County Jail, the highway patrol said.
