SARASOTA COUNTY - A 14-year-old remains hospitalized and authorities are still looking for the gray car that hit the teenager and sped off on Tuesday afternoon.
Trey Parrish was headed home from Target on Fruitville Road when he tried to cross the street, realized that he could not get across in time and pedaled back toward the shoulder, his aunt said on Thursday.
Parrish was struck by the car and suffered a broken collarbone and a torn spleen, said Doreen Parrish, his aunt.
He was flown to Bayfront Medical Center and has been transferred to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg. Parrish says the teenager is expected to remain in the hospital for five more days.
Meanwhile, authorities did not release any additional information about the make and model of the fleeing car.
The teen's family says that they have been told two people were in the car at the time, but the driver did not attempt to slow down after the crash.
"They should come forward," Parrish said. "Somebody knows what happened, and they should come out with the truth. It's the right thing to do."
