TAMPA - A gas station clerk took a gamble and lost on cashing in $240 worth of lottery tickets swiped from his workplace, police said.
Temple Terrace police charged Yasir Elyas, 52, of Tampa, on Wednesday with felony dealing in stolen property, misdemeanor scheme to defraud, petit theft and making false statements to police. Elyas was free today on $9,000 bail, records show.
According to an affidavit, Elyas worked at a BP gas station at 7202 E. Fowler Ave. in May when he was seen on video surveillance cashing in lottery tickets that the station manager had reported stolen. Elyas received $240 from seven tickets, the affidavit states.
Elyas at first told police he had bought the tickets, then said that he had lied about that, the affidavit states.
