TAMPA - Local celebrity worship, bright lights and chic fashion sense met head-on today at a fashion show benefiting the Hillsborough Achievement Resource Center.
The fashions from Georgette's of Old Hyde Park featured local television and radio celebrities and a few sports figures as well.
More than 500 gawkers sat at dozens of tables, each paying at least $75 to attend. Those seated at runway tables paid $125 each.
The event took place in the second-floor ballroom of the Tampa Hyatt Regency in downtown Tampa.
HARC is a program that offers help to people with developmental disabilities. It currently serves more than 400 clients across the county. The main campus in Tampa has a senior center, a facility for people with disabilities and Alzheimer's disease and a vocational training facility. A second facility is in Riverview.
The programs are a huge benefit to the area, said Hillsborough County Commissioner Rose Ferlita, who offered some opening remarks.
"Every dollar spent on HARC is well-invested and needed in our community," she said.
The fashion show featured local celebrities such as Gayle Sierens, Gayle Guyardo and Jennifer Hill from WFLA, News Channel 8; Jen Holloway from Bay News 9; and Lauren Dungy, wife of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head coach Tony Dungy, who now coaches the Indianapolis Colts.
