ALLEN PARK, Mich. - The Detroit Lions fired president Matt Millen, more than seven years after the former linebacker and TV analyst took over one of the NFL's most mediocre franchises and made it the worst.
Millen's teams won a league-low 31 games since he took over in 2001.
Detroit was routed in each of its first three games this season, dropping Millen to 31-84 overall and giving the Lions at least 10 more losses than any other NFL team during the past seven-plus seasons during one of the worst stretches in league history.
BILLS: Receiver Roscoe Parrish will miss four to six weeks after having surgery to repair ligament damage in his right thumb.
BROWNS: Derek Anderson, who was ineffective during a three-game losing streak, has kept his starting quarterback job, despite clamoring by fans for Coach Romeo Crennel to start popular second-year backup Brady Quinn.
CHIEFS: Damon Huard will be back under center for winless Kansas City, giving the Chiefs a different starting quarterback for the fourth week in a row.
Huard, the only one of Kansas City's four quarterbacks who ever won an NFL game, will start against Denver (3-0) while Tyler Thigpen, who threw three picks in his first NFL start last week, returns to the bench.
Regular starter Brodie Croyle, who separated his shoulder in the season opener, expects to return Oct. 19 against Tennessee.
COLTS: Signed David Greene, the former Georgia quarterback who broke Peyton Manning's NCAA major-college record for victories and finished his college career as the SEC's leader in yards passing.
DOLPHINS: Outside linebackers coach Jim Reid left the team's training facility in an ambulance after experiencing dizziness after practice.
GIANTS: Suspended Plaxico Burress for a game for missing a practice and not calling to explain his absence. Burress' agent insisted the nine-year veteran had a family emergency and will appeal the ban to the NFL Players Association.
JETS: Brett Favre, who rolled his ankle Monday night against San Diego and was limping slightly, was uncertain how limited he'll be during practice this week.
PACKERS: Cornerback Al Harris has a "serious" spleen injury, believed to be a ruptured spleen.
PANTHERS: Re-signed linebacker Donte Curry to replace Dan Connor, who tore the ACL in his left knee and was placed on injured reserve.
SAINTS: Released reserve quarterback Joey Harrington five days after signing him and signed tight end Sean Ryan to compensate for the loss of Jeremy Shockey to a sports hernia.
Also, guard Jamar Nesbit has been suspended for four games for violating the NFL's policy on anabolic steroids and related substances.
OBITUARY: Dick Lynch, who starred at cornerback for the New York Giants during their glory years in the late 1950s and early 1960s and was a longtime radio analyst for the team, has died after being treated for leukemia. He was 72.
Lynch played in the NFL from 1958-1966 - his first season with Washington and the last eight with the Giants. He had 37 career interceptions, including a league-leading nine each in 1961 in 1963.
