State Supreme Court Rejects Amendment Wording Again

Published: September 25, 2008

The Florida Supreme Court says the state's revised statement on how much a proposed growth management amendment might cost taxpayers is still vague and misleading.

In an advisory opinion to the attorney general, the court said Thursday the Financial Impact Estimating Conference statement must be redrafted again because the language from state economists "suffers from the same flaw" the court ruled last year as misleading.

Florida Hometown Democracy is leading the drive that would require voter approval of changes in plans that determine how and where cities and counties grow. The group tried to get it on the ballot this year.

The court, however, said economists could try for a third time to get it right.
