TAMPA - Legrand Pratt Jr. was sentenced to 12 years in prison today after pleading guilty to attempted murder for dragging Tampa Officer Kiet Truong down a road while Truong was holding on to the stolen Corvette that Pratt was driving.
Hillsborough Circuit Judge Ronald Figarrotta imposed the sentence after accepting a plea bargain that Pratt, 42, of Charlotte, N.C., struck with prosecutors.
As he tried to detain Pratt, Truong said, Pratt started the car and tried to flee. The officer said his arm was stuck between Pratt and the steering wheel. Truong eventually fell free and wound up with scrapes and bumps. He helped his partner pursue Pratt. The chase ended when Pratt hit a telephone pole. The encounter was caught on videotape.
