Polk County detectives found a methamphetamine lab in a Lake Wales hotel room Thursday night, deputies say.
The lab was in a Lake View Hotel room occupied by Richard Brewer, 33, of Dundee, and his girlfriend Mindy Simmon, 33, of Lake Wales.
Brewer and Simmon allowed detectives to search the room, and the investigators found items that appeared to be part of a meth lab, a Polk County Sheriff's Office news release states. Detectives also saw baggies of white powdery substances that later tested positive for methamphetamines.
Investigators determined that the lab was operational.
Items inside the room included a gas generator, ephedrine, Coleman fuel, lye, drain cleaner, lithium batteries and fertilizer.
Brewer said he learned to cook methamphetamines in Alabama, according to the news release.
Simmon was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Brewer was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and manufacture of methamphetamine.
