Published: September 26, 2008

On the verge of flu season, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention this week expanded its recommendation for those who should get shots - saying for the first time that every child of age 6 months and older should get them.

The recommendation previously exempted youngsters of ages 5 through 18. The addition of these 30 million youngsters brings to 86 percent the proportion of the population that is supposed to get flu shots.

Bay area health clinics, grocers, pharmacies and health fairs are offering shots. Some charge a fee, which insurance or Medicare Part B may cover.
