THURSDAY: Obama, McCain and other leaders meet at the White House with President Bush. The meeting includes heated exchanges, according to reports, particularly with conservative Republicans who do not support the plan and subsequently make their own proposal.

FRIDAY: Parties involved, including conservative Republicans who said they wouldn't participate, renew negotiations toward a bailout plan. McCain says there is "significant progress" toward an agreement and he will restart his campaign and participate in the debate that night.
