DADE CITY - A former official with the Pasco Building Association was named the new executive director of the Dade City Chamber of Commerce.
Nita Beckwith, former executive director of the builders group, accepted the chamber's top job Wednesday, said Missy Lea, chamber president. Beckwith also is a former leader of the Hernando County Builders Association.
"She's a delight to talk to and very enthusiastic about the job," Lea said. "It all just came together, and it was perfect timing.
"She's a certified executive director and has 18 years of experience."
Beckwith, of Brooksville, was unavailable for comment Friday. She starts at the chamber Monday. Her salary was not disclosed.
She replaces Tony Lister, who was with the chamber for a few months before resigning in August because of personal issues. Lister was preceded by Phyllis Smith, who led the chamber for 21 years.
The chamber, which organizes the annual Kumquat Festival, Christmas parade and other events, has nearly 460 members, Lea said.
"Our membership has stayed pretty much the same for about the past seven years," she said. "We haven't seen any decline with the economy. It's basically the same business owners who have supported the chamber for as long as I can remember.
"Right now we're hitting our annual award banquets in October. Since we haven't had a director in full swing, it's been up to the full board to get everything done. And this board has done a heck of a job to get it done."
