THE DIFFERENCE: The Durant (2-2) defense kept King's offense off the board after the Lions had two first-quarter possessions inside the Cougars' 30-yard line following turnovers. Durant's Marvin Dexter blocked one field-goal attempt and King's holder was unable to handle the snap on its second attempt to put points on the board.

GAME NOTES: After a scoreless first quarter, Durant broke a scoreless tie with an 11-yard Ryan Rice touchdown run, which was set up by a 56-yard pass completion from Je'Twan Smith to Rance Rutherford. ... King's Darrell Dudney gave the Lions their first points with a 22-yard field goal midway through the second quarter. ... King quarterback Reese Sturgis was 11-of-16 for 122 yards and scored two touchdowns. ... Durant's starting offensive lineman and situational linebacker Jacob Johnson had back-to-back fourth-quarter sacks to pin King on its 1-yard line. After a 25-yard King punt, the Cougars put the game away, with Rice capping a 26-yard drive with a 3-yard TD run.

STAT OF THE GAME: Durant senior Rice carried the ball 19 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns.

QUOTE OF THE GAME: "Offensively we struggled at times, but we hung in there and scored when we needed to. Hats off to our defense, which kept us in the game." - Durant coach Mike Gottman
