ST. PETERSBURG - Marcel Durham's 71-yard touchdown run on the second play of the second half was the second-half spark Largo coach Rick Rodriguez was looking for as the Packers (3-0) held off St. Petersburg (2-2) with a 17-16 win.
"We told the kids that they had to start the third quarter with something big. ... We had to establish some kind of running game," Rodriguez said.
The Green Devils missed extra point after Ben Sams' 5-yard touchdown run in the second quarter provided the Packers with their slim margin of victory. St. Pete added a field goal to take a 9-3 lead, but Largo took a lead into halftime on Ryan Eppes' 79-yard touchdown pass to Mike Lang.
After Durham's run gave Largo a 17-9 lead, St. Pete answered with an 80-yard touchdown run from Stevie Murph. But Largo's defense, led by Jason Wine and his two second half interceptions, would negate any further scoring chances for the Green Devils.

LAKELAND 27,
LAUDERDALE ANDERSON 22
LAKELAND - Javares McRoy caught two touchdown passes, including a 20-yarder with 2 minutes, 20 seconds remaining as Lakeland defeated Lauderdale Boyd Anderson.
Anderson went ahead 22-21 with 5:43 remaining and, on the ensuing kickoff, pinned Lakeland (4-0) down on its own 20-yard line. Two plays later, however, McRoy, a sophomore, raced 51 yards off a screen pass to Anderson's 18-yard line. Two plays after that, McRoy was in the end zone for the final time.
"We made a lot of mistakes on penalties but we also made big plays when we needed them," Lakeland coach Bill Castle said. "At halftime the kids were getting together and fired up for the second half. These guys have a lot of pride and they hate to lose."
