THE DIFFERENCE: In a wild game, which had everything from a delay in the fourth quarter because of a fight in the stands to a late Hillsborough fumble when the game looked to be put away, Middleton kicker Zachary Wehr was short on a 47-yard field-goal attempt that would have tied the game as time ran out. Trailing by three with 1:25 left, the Tigers (1-3) recovered a fumble on their own 37-yard line. Middleton drove the ball into Hillsborough (3-1) territory and even had a dropped ball in the end zone before a stingy Terrier defense stiffened and forced the long field-goal try to end the game.
GAME NOTES: Middleton's Wehr had a punt snap go over his head but recovered nicely and got off a 20-yard kick under duress during the game. ... Hillsborough fumbled the opening kickoff which Middleton recovered on the Hillsborough 22-yard line and took in for the opening score. ... Middleton running back Rodney Johnson finished with 30 carries for 164 yards. Both of Lindsey Lamar's scores for Hillsborough of 35 and 47 yards were on quick hits.
STAT OF THE GAME: Trying to get a final score, Middleton quarterbacks threw six incompletions in the last 1:25 to end the game.
QUOTE OF THE GAME: "I don't know if I've ever seen a game like this in 35 years. One of the craziest games I've been involved in, but somehow we're 1-0 in the district. We definitely earned the win tonight." - Hillsborough coach Earl Garcia
