THE DIFFERENCE: After holding onto a slim 7-6 lead at halftime, Wharton (2-2) converted big plays into touchdowns on its way to a win against Sickles (0-4) in front of a homecoming crowd at Wharton.
GAME NOTES: Wharton scored on its first drive of the game. Jairus Jones returned the opening kickoff 33 yards to give the Wildcats the ball at the 50-yard line. Eleven plays later, quarterback Andrew Clifford scored on a 1-yard plunge. ... Clifford completed nine of 19 passes for 154 yards. ... Sickles answered early in the second quarter when Scott O'Donoghue's seventh carry of the game resulted in a 3-yard touchdown. ... The second half belonged to the Wildcats. Clifford hit Brandon Johnson for a 64-yard score. ... Chris Griffith's interception return set up a 25-yard scoring pass from Clifford to Jairus Jones and Shane McEwen finished the scoring on an 87-yard run.
STAT OF THE GAME: The Wildcats' Malik Williams carried the ball 19 times for 82 yards, while McEwen gained 99 on three rushes.
