JACKSONVILLE - Take out the touchdown Colorado threw against Patrick Robinson and the players returning for their first action of the season did well Saturday night. That included Robinson, who had a big return and made two tackles.
Defensive linemen Justin Mincey and Neefy Moffett combined for three tackles for a loss plus Moffett recovered a fumble.
"We just took less of the guy's legs so they can stay fresh," Moffett said. "With everybody coming in and everybody fresh, that means everyone gets less snaps.
"It felt good just to be out here with my teammates."
Dekoda Watson led FSU with 10 tackles, including seven solo.
Watson was also hit with a penalty for a late hit but defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews had some immediate questions for the officials regarding that play.
"We got some help out of those guys that came back," Andrews said.
It wasn't just on defense.
Offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher said Land O' Lakes graduate Caz Piurowski made a great contribution with his blocking and his three catches.
"Big help for us, and not just blocking on the edges," he said.
HAWKINS DELIVERS PRAISE: Colorado coach Dan Hawkins went out of his way to congratulate FSU coaches and quarterback Christian Ponder after the game.
Outside FSU's locker room, Hawkins told Andrews: "Great job. Your guys are tough."
INJURY UPDATE: Andrews may want to rethink allowing his cornerbacks to return kickoffs and punts. Robinson injured his lower back while returning the opening kickoff of the second half. It was good for 39 yards and set up Graham Gano's 52-yard field goal that put FSU up 22-7.
"That was a big return that Pat had. It's just unfortunate he got hurt in the process," Andrews said.
