A 53-year-old man was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle crashed into the back of a sedan that was stopped at a crosswalk in Redington Beach, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
John Daniel Shuman of St. Petersburg was pinned between the motorcycle and a Toyota Avalon about 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Gulf Boulevard and 157th Avenue, deputies said. Shuman was taken by medical helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center with injuries that appear to be life-threatening, deputies said.
The driver of the Toyota, Raymond Lacombe, 74, of Minnesota, was not hurt. Lacombe had stopped in the northbound lanes of Gulf Boulevard to allow pedestrians to cross the street, deputies said.
The motorcycle approached the Toyota from behind and failed to stop, the sheriff's office said.
The investigation is ongoing.
