Armwood QB Mywan Jackson - The Hawks senior has accounted for 13 touchdowns in the last three games (eight passing and five rushing).
Tampa Bay Tech - The Titans improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Class 4A-District 11 with a win against Freedom, and they did it without the services of standout FB Maurice Hagens (knee).
Tampa Catholic - The Crusaders have responded well after an 0-2 start and enter the bye week with a .500 record and a 1-0 mark in Class 2A-District 5 play after Friday's win against Lake Placid.
WHO'S NOT
Gaither - The return of RB Jarvis Giles wasn't enough as the Cowboys dropped to 1-3, their worst start under Coach Mark Kantor.
Riverview - The young Sharks fell to 0-3 with Friday's loss to Plant, and things don't get any easier this week for Bruce Gifford's squad with Hillsborough, a team that beat them 35-0 last season, on tap.
Hudson - Not only did the Cobras fall in a heartbreaker Friday to Pasco, but also they had to forfeit a Week 2 win against Hernando for using an ineligible player, dropping them to 0-3 overall.
CAN'T HELP BUT LOOK AHEAD
While the Bloomingdale Bulls shouldn't look ahead on their schedule, the thought of Hillsborough County's most downtrodden program finally breaking through with a winning record in 2008 is too intriguing for us not to do so.
Bloomingdale, which opened in 1987 but has not finished above .500, is 3-1 following Friday night's win against Plant City, and the Bulls' next two games are winnable ones. In fact, the Bulls could be favored to win both.
The Bulls get winless Sickles (0-4) on the road this week. After a bye the following week, the Bulls host Leto (1-3).
If the Bulls manage to win both of those games, they would need just one victory against their final four opponents - East Bay (3-1), Brandon (1-3), Newsome (2-2) and Durant (2-2) - to end more than two decades of frustration.
SOAKING ... DRY
After his team's win against Freedom on Friday, Tampa Bay Tech coach C.C. Culpepper got his first official Gatorade shower. His players tried to dump the cooler on him after the team's win against Sickles last week, but Culpepper managed to dodge the celebratory gesture.
"They got me this time, because I wasn't looking," he said.
Before walking into his huddle, Culpepper ironically said, "I'm so dehydrated."
BY THE NUMBERS
Combined points in Freedom's last two losses.
Percentage of Hillsborough teams that made the playoffs in 2007 after having a sub-.500 record through the first four games. Jefferson, which started 1-3 last year, was the only one of 10 teams to make the postseason.
Number of touchdown passes for Plant's Aaron Murray the past two games, even though the senior QB has sat out virtually the entire second half in each game.
Percentage of Hillsborough teams that made the playoffs in 2007 after having a record of .500 or better through the first four games. Ten of the 19 teams with a record of 2-2 or better made the playoffs.
