TAMPA - Paula Geneva Echols wanted the television's remote control. So did a 17-year-old boy.
An argument ensued, and she punched the boy in the face, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
Then she got a black and silver baseball bat and held it like she was going to swing it at the boy and demanded the remote control.
Echols isn't related to the child but did live with him, deputies say.
The 17-year-old no longer is living with the woman. He now is with his grandmother, Carter said.
Echols, 27, of Tampa, was charged early today with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse and battery.
She remained in Orient Road Jail today. Her bail had not been set.
