PORT RICHEY - The body found in a trash bin Saturday was the victim of "homicidal violence," authorities said Sunday.
The Pasco-Pinellas Medical Examiner identified the man as 18-year-old Anthony S. Granton of 6124 Seabreeze Drive, New Port Richey.
Investigators wouldn't say how Granton died or whether they had any suspects.
"We are not releasing how long we think the body was in the Dumpster or the exact cause of death," Pasco County Sheriff's Office spokesman Doug Tobin said in a news release.
The body was discovered in a trash bin in the parking lot of the Orchid Lake Village Civic Association pool, 7425 Orchid Lake Road. Deputies were called shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday.
Granton's neighbors, Frank and Barbara Ann Magno, said they were shocked when they heard about his death.
"We weren't close or anything, but he was always very respectful to us. He'd say hello and ask how we were," Barbara Ann Magno said. "If their dog ever came onto our property, he'd chase him back home.
"His dad just came and told us somebody shot him. His dad is so upset."
Magno said Granton sometimes hung out in front of his house, but he and his friends were generally quiet.
"He's just like any other kid on the block," Frank Magno said.
