Police: Teen Killed Woman, Used Stolen $6 For Beer

PALM BAY - A Florida teenager told police Monday that he slashed a woman to death during a burglary and a witness said the teen used the $6 he stole during the burglary to buy beer.

Alan Michael Tanguay, 16, faces a charge of first-degree murder in Friday's death of Patricia Kaliszeski, 58, who was found in her bed at home with her throat cut and multiple stab wounds to her neck.

According to police documents, Tanguay told investigators he was burglarizing the house when Kaliszeski approached him with a knife. He took it away from her and used it to attack her, and also hit her in the head with a lamp.

Police arrested Tanguay on Monday based on information from at least two witnesses who said Tanguay told them he committed the crime. The witnesses, whose names were redacted from police documents, said Tanguay told them the home was unlocked when he entered and both the radio and television were on.

One witness told police that Tanguay "has claimed to have killed someone else in the past. He said he has a rule - if he finds someone in the house during a burglary, he has to kill them," according to a report filed by police.

One of the witnesses said Tanguay asked someone to buy him beer with the money after the slaying.

Police said they accessed Tanguay's account on a social networking Web site, which had a statement describing how he likes gory violence, "like people getting their neck slit and tounge pulled out."

Tanguay's mother, listed in public records as Donna Tanguay, declined to comment Monday when reached by phone and wouldn't provide information about whether her son has an attorney.

Tanguay is currently being held in a juvenile facility but could be charged as an adult. A police spokeswoman did not immediately know when Tanguay was scheduled to appear in court or if he had already appeared.

Palm Bay is about 55 miles southeast of Orlando.
