TAMPA - Detectives say a man jailed in Pasco County on murder charges is connected to an April 8 fatal shooting outside a Tampa restaurant.
Tyree A. Jenkins, 22, of 38701 Island Ave., Dade City, was charged today in the death of Willie Cherry with murder, robbery with a firearm, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon, Tampa police said.
Cherry's brother, Adrian Cherry, 18, was robbed at gunpoint on April 8 outside Salem's Gyro Restaurant, 4004 E. Hillsborough Ave., police said. Willie Cherry, 22, tried to intervene, was shot in the chest and died, detectives said.
The shooter left the restaurant in a red Dodge pickup with three other people inside, police said. Witnesses provided investigators information that led to Jenkins' arrest. Detectives have identified the three people in the red truck, and additional arrests will be made, police said.
Jenkins was arrested July 25 on a first-degree murder warrant in connection to the 2006 slayings of two Wesley Chapel teens. Jenkins is being held without bail at Pasco County Jail.
