A doctor who vanished eight years ago after he was charged with molesting two girls in Pinellas County has turned up under a different name in Ireland and now is fighting extradition, according to Dublin news organizations.
Rory P. Doyle, 54, was charged in 2000 with one count of lewd and lascivious molestation, and two counts of handling and fondling a child under 16, Pinellas County court records show. One of the victims was 8, the other 13, and one of the victims filed suit against him following the allegation, records show.
An allergist, Doyle had three children of his own in Pinellas. He failed to show up for a court appearance in November 2001. At the time of his disappearance, he and his wife were divorcing.
He turned up in Ireland using the name David West, according to Irish press accounts.
Bruce Bartlett, the chief assistant in the Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney's Office, said he believed Doyle came to the attention of Irish authorities after he had a relationship with a patient there. They looked into Doyle's history and discovered he was wanted in Pinellas.
He was arrested on the Pinellas charges but made bail, Bartlett said.
If convicted, he faces up to 65 years in prison, Bartlett said.
