Auditions For Brandon Idol Fundraiser On Saturday

BRANDON - So you want to be a star?

Now's your chance. The organizers of the ninth annual Brandon Idol fundraiser will be on the lookout for the community's most talented residents as they host an audition for contestants at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hi-Life Bar & Grill, 1602 E. Brandon Blvd.

Musicians, dancers and singers are invited to perform for a chance to compete in the Brandon Idol contest at 7 p.m. April 25 at the Brandon Elks Lodge, 800 Centennial Drive.

A Brandon Idol Teen competition, for ages 10 to 17, will take place at 2 p.m. the same day at the Elks Lodge.

Both competitions will benefit the Brandon chapter of the Dream Factory, which makes dreams come true for ill children ages 3 to 18 living in the Brandon area, and United Cerebral Palsy of Tampa Bay, which assists individuals with disabilities, including providing therapy services.

"It started in 2001 with a charity talent show, and it was lots of fun," chairman Dave Loebig said. "We knew immediately that we'd do it again."

The auditions take place in a casual atmosphere, he said.

"The auditions are pretty simple," he said. "Singers are introduced and sing a full song using their own karaoke CD. After the audition, we'll contact performers who make the cut to be in the finals April 25."

There is no cost to audition, but space is limited so Loebig advises contestants to register early by going online and completing a short audition form. For information and to register, go to www.brandonidol.com or call (813) 689-0945.

This year, the organizers are planning other activities in conjunction with the Brandon Idol competitions, including a songwriting contest April 22 at Music Showcase.
