MANATEE COUNTY - A Bradenton man released from prison last month for battering an officer and a police dog fought with a K-9 officer again today, authorities say.
According to a Manatee County sheriff's report, Henry Sailes, 41, was pulled over in a stolen vehicle around 1 a.m. in the 5600 block of Seventh Street Court East.
Sailes ran from the vehicle but was located by a sheriff's helicopter and tracked by a police dog.
A deputy released the dog when Sailes would not stop running, and the report states Sailes then punched and choked the dog, causing a cut above its eye.
Sailes was apprehended during the struggle and taken to the Manatee County Jail on misdemeanor charges of battery of a police dog and resisting arrest. Sailes also faces a felony probation violation charge.
Sailes, of the 3300 block of Fifth Street East, was released from the Marion Correctional Institute Feb. 17 after serving five years on the 2002 battery and drug-related charges.
