Hillsborough County commissioners will get updates on finances, transportation and water conservation when they meet today at 9 a.m.
The commission will hear the latest from the county transportation task force, a 21-member body that looks at transit needs in the future. Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio attended a task force meeting Monday, pitching her case for a countywide sales tax referendum to finance a light rail system.
The county commission is the only Hillsborough government body that can put a tax measure on the ballot. Commissioners will weigh the task force's recommendation before deciding whether to put a 1 cent sales tax increase to voters in November 2010.
Also at the meeting, Circuit Court Clerk Pat Frank will brief commissioners on the county's comprehensive financial report for fiscal year 2008, which ended Sept. 30.
Paul Vanderploog, director of the county's Water Resources Department, is scheduled to talk about the county's efforts to conserve water and crack down on violations of lawn watering restrictions.
