TAMPA - A 76-year-old woman was visiting a Tampa home when a fire started and caused about $40,000 damage.
About 12:03 p.m. today, firefighters came to a wood frame home at 1013 E. 14th Ave. and saw smoke coming from inside. Firefighters got the fire under control within 10 minutes.
The woman in the home, Josephine Boucourt, suffered burns to a hand and her forehead and was taken to Tampa General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Boucourt likely was heating cooking oil on a stove, preparing to make french fries, when the fire began, firefighters say.
Homeowner Louberta Simpson, 74, wasn't home when the blaze began. She has lived in the home about 20 years.
