TAMPA - The Coast Guard is monitoring the cleanup of a 1,000-gallon oil spill in the Port of Tampa.
The waste oil spilled in the water about 11:30 a.m. today after the tugboat Katherine Ann collided with the moored tug Liberty, Coast Guard spokesman Rob Simpson said. The Katherine Ann was pushing a 210-foot barge called the Crystal River.
Diversified Environmental Services is the parent company of one of the boats and responded to the spill immediately because its offices are near the dock at 2500 Causeway Blvd., Simpson said.
Because of the quick response, there hasn't been major damage to marine life or the environment, Simpson said.
No injuries were reported.
