A 70-year-old Winter Haven man died Wednesday morning when he lost control of his car and was hit by a pickup towing a trailer.
Raul Flores died at the site of the accident, which occurred at 11:07 a.m. on State Road 60, near Godwin Road in Polk County. His passenger, 28-year-old Armondo Martinez of Winter Haven, was taken by medical helicopter to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Flores was eastbound on SR 60 when he lost control of his 1994 Jeep Cherokee, which swerved onto the shoulder and then into the westbound lanes.
The Cherokee overturned and was hit by a Ford F-350 pickup that was heading westbound on SR 60 towing an Eli trailer.
The truck's driver, Neal Carlin, 57, of North Palm Beach, was taken to Lake Wales Hospital with minor injuries.
