TAMPA - Tampa police are investigating a fight video involving teenage girls that popped up on MySpace last week.
The case has been assigned to a detective, who is following up on it today, said retired Sgt. Jim Contento, a department spokesman.
In the video, several adults are watching the fight, which appears to take place in a recreational area in Tampa. At one point, a woman even gets involved.
Investigators are conferring with the state attorney's office to determine whether anyone should be charged with a crime, Contento said. He said the fight took place near the 3500 block of North 22nd Street.
The video was posted Friday.
The fight occurred about 4 p.m. Friday and was reported about 9 p.m. that day, Contento said.
A YouTube video involving the March 30, 2008, beating of a Polk County teen caused a national stir.
Brittini Hardcastle, one of five girls charged in the Polk attack, was sentenced to 15 days in jail. April Cooper, 14, Kayla Hassell, 15, and Brittany Mayes, 17, were sentenced to one year of probation. The organizer of the attack, Mercades Nichols, 17, was sentenced to three years of probation.
News Channel 8 reporter Natalie Shepherd and Tribune researcher Stephanie Pincus contributed to this report. Reporter Josh Poltilove can be reached at (813) 259-7691.
