TAMPA - Derek Jeter could be the first New York Yankees player to bat at their new stadium.
Manager Joe Girardi said Wednesday his spring training switch of Jeter and Johnny Damon atop the lineup has worked so well that as of right now, the Yankees captain will bat first and Damon second for the season opener at Baltimore on Monday.
Girardi flip-flopped Damon and Jeter for the first time March 26.
BRAVES: Tom Glavine tossed five innings in Atlanta's 9-3 victory against the Detroit Tigers and will pitch in two minor-league games before making his season debut for the Braves on April 18.
CARDINALS: Third baseman Troy Glaus is expected to miss at least two months following a setback in his rehabilitation from arthroscopic shoulder surgery in January.
RANGERS: Cleared the way for Andruw Jones to make their roster by releasing Frank Catalanotto.
GLOAD TRADED: The Kansas City Royals have traded first baseman and outfielder Ross Gload to the Florida Marlins. The Royals said they would also get cash for the former University of South Florida star, while the Marlins will get a player to be named.
LEGAL: New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain pleaded guilty in Lincoln, Neb., to a charge of drunken driving and was given probation and fined.
