Penn Trying To Gauge Worth

Published: April 2, 2009

TAMPA - Donald Penn isn't attending Bucs minicamp, but he and his agent haven't exactly been idle, either.

Penn has started 29 consecutive games for Tampa Bay at the critical left tackle position and the 25-year-old restricted free agent decided to skip this voluntary three-day camp.

Although he hasn't signed his tender offer, Penn isn't prohibited from attending a voluntary minicamp.

He said Wednesday he is working out in California, then referred all questions to his agent, Rocky Arceneaux.

Penn has two more weeks before he is required to sign his high tender offer, which requires a first-round and a third-round pick as compensation for any team interested in his services.

Arceneaux said he has talked to several NFL clubs in an effort to gauge the market for Penn, slated to make $2.8 million in 2009.

"Teams have no qualms about paying the kind of money that Donald Penn is looking for," Arceneaux said, "but we are realistic and we know the compensation is very high."

Stallworth Will Face Charges

MIAMI - Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth was charged with killing a pedestrian last month while driving drunk after a night out at a swank South Beach nightspot.

An arrest warrant charging Stallworth, 28, with DUI manslaughter was filed in the March 14 accident that killed 59-year-old Mario Reyes. If convicted, Stallworth would face as many as 15 years in prison.

Stallworth's blood-alcohol level after the crash was .126, well above Florida's legal limit of .08, according to results of a blood test.

Stallworth will also be charged with DUI, which carries a possible six-month sentence plus fines and community service for first offenders.

49ERS: Receiver Isaac Bruce informed Coach Mike Singletary of his decision to return for his 16th NFL season.

LEGAL: Venjah Hunte, 21, who pleaded guilty to avoid a possible life sentence in the killing of Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor, now wants to back out of the deal, his attorney said.

Hunte would have served 29 years under the deal reached in May, in exchange for his cooperation with prosecutors.
