Toxicology results are pending in a fatal crash that killed a 70-year-old man in Polk County on Wednesday morning.
Raul Flores of Winter Haven lost control of his 1994 Jeep Cherokee as he was driving east on State Road 60 approaching Godwin Road at 11:07 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said. The Jeep drifted onto the south shoulder of State Road 60, then veered back across the eastbound lanes and grass median into the westbound lanes, where it overturned, according to the accident report.
A 2000 Ford F-350 towing a trailer, traveling westbound, struck the roof of the Jeep as it lay on its side, McCranie said.
Flores died at the scene. His passenger, 28-year-old Armando Rodriguez Martinez of Winter Haven, was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, troopers said.
The driver of the truck, 57-year-old Neal A. Carlin of North Palm Beach, was taken to Lake Wales Medical Center with minor injures, troopers said.
The crash is under investigation.
