TAMPA - Hillsborough County residents can participate in a nationwide Internet survey to improve computer-based library services.
The county Public Library Cooperative is participating in the survey that aims to find out how people use computers and Internet connections at public libraries. The survey is being conducted by the Washington Information School with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
According to the cooperative, there has been no nationwide research about how library computing services fit into people's lives. Some people think library patrons use the computers mostly for entertainment, but librarians report people use them to find jobs, stay connected with family and friends or to get health information. The goal of the survey is to use the information to improve library computer services and to inform policy-makers about how best to fund and support them.
You can access the survey starting Monday through April 19 at www.hcplc.org. The survey is anonymous.
