LAND O' LAKES - The widening of U.S. 41 has won a spot on the state Department of Transportation's list of projects to be built with federal stimulus funding.
DOT officials released the statewide list of projects Thursday. It includes more than $1.3 billion in state and local roads, along with transit and pedestrian projects.
The entire list must go to state legislators for their approval before any money can start flowing.
Pasco County's portion of the funding includes $26 million for widening U.S. 41 between Tower Road and Connerton Boulevard. It also includes $560,000 for improvements to the county's bus system and a little more than $1 million to build a bike trail between Congress Street in New Port Richey and the Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park.
DOT officials estimate widening U.S. 41 to six lanes will create about 760 jobs.
Elsewhere in the Tampa Bay area, Hillsborough County won DOT support for $76 million to link the Selmon Crosstown Expressway to Interstate 4. Pinellas County won support for a $24 million project to add interchanges and frontage roads to U.S. 19 between Whitney Road and State Road 60.
