TAMPA - A 1-year-old girl died this afternoon after being run over by a car backing out of a driveway.
Police say Deanna L. Wallace, 27, was babysitting the child, Camora Pink, and Camora's 2-year-old sister. Wallace drove the children to 10108 N. 10th St. to visit someone about 12:15 p.m.
As Wallace pulled into the driveway, Sabyne Collin, 37, also pulled into the driveway in a 2000 Ford Taurus.
Police say Wallace took the children out of the car and went to the passenger side of the Taurus because she thought the passenger was the person she had come to visit. When she realized it wasn't the person she was looking for, Wallace walked the children back around the Taurus.
As they were behind the Taurus' left rear bumper, Camora let go of Wallace's hand to wipe her nose. Collin was reversing and didn't see the child, police said.
The Taurus knocked the child to the ground and ran over her. Tampa Fire Rescue pronounced her dead at the scene.
