Venice Man Charged With DUI Manslaughter In Son's Death

VENICE - A Venice man was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter for his role in a crash that killed his son in January.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report:

Jackie Roy Clark Jr., 45, was driving a 1996 Ford F-150 truck north on Jacaranda Boulevard on the afternoon of Jan. 2 when the incident occurred. Clark's son, Jackie Roy Clark III, 22, of North Port, was in the front seat. Neither man was wearing a seat belt.

As Clark Jr. approached U.S. 41, he lost control of the truck and it overturned, electing both men. Clark III was pronounced dead at the scene. Clark Jr. was flown to Bayfront Medical center with injuries, and later recovered.

Clark Jr. was arrested Monday and charged with DUI manslaughter. His bail was set at $50,000.
