The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the man and woman killed Sunday afternoon in a crash on State Road 62 as James Jones, 40, of Avon Park and Janice Zonneveld, 59, of Palmetto.
The crash occurred about 4:20 p.m. four miles east of Parrish in Manatee County when Jones' Dodge pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Ford sport utility driven by Zonneveld, the highway patrol said.
The Dodge truck flipped and landed on its roof while the SUV spun and veered onto the north shoulder of S.R. 62, the highway patrol said.
Jones and Zonneveld died at the scene, near the intersection of Corbett John Road. A passenger in the Dodge truck, Betty Jones, 36, was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Two children riding with Jones, Curtis Jones, 14, and Jimmy Jones, 3, were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries. The children's injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, highway patrol Sgt. William Pasco said.
The westbound lane of S.R. 62 was closed for several hours as authorities cleared the wreckage.
The investigation is ongoing.
Correction: An earlier edition of this article incorrectly stated the two children were riding with Zonneveld.
