ENGLEWOOD - A man is recovering after surviving a small plane crash in Englewood that killed his travel companion.
Sarasota County Sheriff's deputies say the single-engine plane went down Saturday afternoon into a heavily wooded area near the Paul Morris Industrial Park. The survivor, who was not identified, was trapped in the wreckage for about 30 minutes before he was pulled free and taken to a hospital.
He reportedly suffered a broken leg, cuts on both legs, and a deep head wound. The other victim was not identified.
Dozens of people attending a festival Saturday at the park heard the aircraft flying low nearby and watched the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
