ATLANTA - The Braves will honor former pitcher Greg Maddux by retiring his number and inducting the four-time National League Cy Young Award winner into the team's Hall of Fame.
Braves president John Schuerholz says the July 17 honors are the organization's way of thanking Maddux for the immeasurable contributions he's made to the team.
Maddux's No. 31 will be the sixth Braves number to be retired.
CUBS: Released right-hander Chad Gaudin.
The reliever was acquired from Oakland in the trade that brought Rich Harden to Chicago in July.
The Cubs also optioned right-hander Jeff Samardzija to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday.
POSTPONEMENT: The season opener between the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox scheduled for today has been postponed because snow is in the forecast.
YANKEES: Right-hander Joba Chamberlain allowed two runs and two hits over 51/3 innings in his final spring training start.
