TAMPA - Tampa Catholic (13-4) is finding tournament baseball to its liking. After winning the Dunedin Spring Tournament last week, the Crusaders have won their first two games in the Saladino Tournament after an 8-4 victory against Chamberlain on Monday at Leto.
Against Chamberlain (7-11), a five-run fifth inning proved to be the difference. The Crusaders, who have won 12 in a row, pounded out five hits, including a two-run double by Ryan Henry and a two-run home run by Cameron Alford.
With a 6-1 lead, Crusaders starting pitcher Ryan Klosicki (5-1) ran into some trouble in the sixth inning. A single, fielding error and hit batter loaded the bases for the Chiefs with no outs. A sacrifice fly by Jorge Valiente, a double by Patrick McVey (his second of the game) and a sacrifice fly by R.J. Tapia cut the Crusaders lead to 6-4.
LETO 3,
BLOOMINGDALE 1
Sophomore Nathan Deleon hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning to lead the Falcons (9-10) to a Pacific Division win. Leto starter P.J. Leto gave up six hits (all singles) and struck out seven. Bloomingdale (11-7) only got a runner to second base once after the first inning.
HILLSBOROUGH 7,
WESLEY CHAPEL 4
The Terriers (11-7) put their first eight batters on base in the first inning, scored five times and held on to beat the Wildcats (4-14) and remain undefeated in the Atlantic Division. Wesley Chapel scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning and had the bases loaded with no outs in the sixth. Hillsborough brought Justin Burke in to pitch and he got a double play after Wesley Chapel had scored another unearned run.
