MANATEE COUNTY - Authorities say the parents of a 7-week-old girl broke the child's leg and caused several fractures from repeatedly tugging and squeezing the infant during an argument Sunday.
Parents Diego F. Martinson, 20, and Summer Labelle, 23, of the 6000 block of Manatee Avenue West, were arrested Monday on charges of aggravated child abuse.
According to a Manatee sheriff's report, the 7-pound girl was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital with a broken femur. She was then transported to All Children's Hospital, where X-rays showed the infant also had two fractured ribs, a fractured tibia and a fractured spine, the report said.
The couple told investigators they had been arguing around 1 a.m. Sunday when Labelle started yanking the baby from Martinson, who squeezed the baby's chest to hold on.
