MIAMI - The AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami will be the first arena in the country to meet the strict environmental standards set by the LEED green building rating system.
AmericanAirlines Arena is the home of the NBA's Miami Heat.
Miami Mayor Manny Diaz will announce the certification Tuesday during a news conference with Eric Woolworth, the Heat's president of business operations. The event also kicks off a conference that focuses on leading Miami into the green building movement.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification means third-party experts have verified that the building meets standards for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
