NEW PORT RICHEY - A gunman who tried to rob a couple outside a restaurant fled when one of the victims fought back, karate chopping the would-be robber's arm, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office reported.
The gunman remains at large, despite deputies' efforts to track him with a dog, the report said.
The attempted robbery happened about 9 p.m. Monday as a husband and wife, ages 59 and 58, left the Sioux City Steakhouse at 8515 Little Road, where they had just eaten dinner, the report said.
As they approached their car, a man came up, holding a handgun in his left hand, and told them he was sick and wanted their wallets, the report said.
Instead of complying, though, the wife screamed for help and the husband karate chopped the man's left arm and started to punch him, but by this time the assailant was running away, the report said.
The gunman was described as either white or Hispanic. He was tall, slender, in his early 20s and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
