On April 2 you reported on Gov. Charlie Crist's proposed purchase of 72,500 acres of U.S. Sugar land near the Everglades ("Recession Decimates Everglades Land Deal," front page).
I could not believe my eyes. I had to read the article again.
You reported Crist as saying the deal still represents "the largest single purchase of land in Florida's history." In 1881 Hamilton Disston purchased from the state 4 million acres in Central and South Florida for $1 million.
That's Florida's history.
