PORT RICHEY - The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is investigating a home invasion and sexual assault that happened Wednesday morning at the home of an 89-year-old woman.
The victim is a resident of the Palm Terrace Gardens subdivision off U.S. 19 and Ranch Road.
Deputies met the victim at about 6 a.m. at a local hospital, where they said a neighbor had taken the her after the early-morning attack. She was treated and released.
Deputies said the victim reported that three masked men broke in to her home, beat her while she lay in her bed, then sexually assaulted her. The men later ransacked the victim's house. The victim couldn't offer a description of the men because of their masks, deputies said.
Deputies think the alleged assailants may be the same people who broke in to and stole the victim's red Pontiac Sunfire on April 2. The car was later recovered.
The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information about the assault to call Detective Sean Kennedy, 1-800-854-2862, ext. 2534.
